CITY SUBURBAN SHOWDOWN - FEB. 18th, 2012- Has moved to Proviso West

17th Annual McDonald’s® “City-Suburban Showdown”

The City-Suburban Showdown on Feb. 18 has been moved from the UIC Pavilion to Proviso West High School due to a NCAA by-law, event promoter Bob Rylko said on Tuesday.

UIC recently informed Rylko, who along with David Kaplan is a co-owners of The Integrity Group, the event could not be held at UIC because of NCAA bylaw 13.11.1.8. The bylaw, which went into effect on April 28, 2011, prohibits non-scholastic events to be conducted at facilities regularly used by Division I athletic programs.

Rylko said the three games in the City-Suburban Showdown will remain on Feb. 18 and at the same times. The three games are St. Rita vs. New Trier at 4:30 p.m., Warren vs. Proviso East at 6:30 p.m. and Simeon vs. De La Salle at 8:30 p.m.

Rylko said customers who have already purchased tickets should return them for a refund to the locations where they were bought. Proviso West ticket information is expected to be released in the future.

“We feel badly about it, but under the circumstances, there’s not much we can do about it,” Rylko said. “We’re moving forward and going to put this behind us.”

Last year’s City-Suburban Showdown drew 8,184 fans at the UIC Pavilion. Proviso West holds about 2,400 fans, according to Rylko.

Windy City Rollers First Bout- Saturday, Jan 28th- Tickets on sale now!

The Windy City Rollers host their first bout of 2012 on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the UIC Pavilion, 525 S. Racine Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the first bout starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance, $21.50 at the door.
The Windy City Rollers are switching things up this year with a Pre-Season Charity Bout to benefit select organizations. On Jan. 28, the four home teams will compete in a single elimination tournament consisting of four 30-minute mini-bouts. First, The Fury will face the Hell's Belles and, next, the Manic Attackers will take on the Double Crossers. The losing teams will then compete for third place and then the winners of the first two bouts will fight for the opportunity to award their charity of choice prize money in the final bout of the evening.

The Fury will compete for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, a national series of 39-mile weekend fundraising events launched by the Avon Foundation to support research toward prevention and a cure for breast cancer, as well as programs that enable all patients to access quality care.

The Hell's Belles will partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters, an organization which has been helping kids reach their potential for over a century by pairing children with role models to start something incredible: a one-to-one relationship built on trust and friendship that can blossom into a future of unlimited potential.

The Manic Attackers will support the Alzheimer's Association, which seeks to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

The Double Crossers will play for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, which strives to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens by providing them with a safe place to play laugh and learn during non-school hours as an alternative to the streets or being home alone.

We want to talk derby to YOU! Will this be your first time at a roller derby bout? You might have questions about the rules and we'll be there to help! Our Haymarket Rioters and volunteers will be on hand to answer all your derby questions.
National Anthem: Wicker Park Choral Singers.
Tickets are available at Ticketmaster, the UIC box office, or from any WCR skater or official. Contact groups@windycityrollers.com to receive 40% off of groups of 25 or more.

Next Bout: The home teams will begin the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 11, with two full-length bouts featuring Hell’s Belles vs The Fury and Manic Attackers vs Double Crossers.
